Welcome back to your favorite sweet-column, today conducted by me, that one who come back suddenly, as he disappeared, and substitute for once the already acclaimed rockstar Aiko! Don't hate me, I abandoned all of a sudden, it's true... it's true, but i didn't left you in stranger's hands, did i? But putting aside sentimentalism and compliments to Aiko, put on the jingle, DJ!


Do you want a tea? A sweet? A slice of cake? In any case, get comfortable, because the episode of today is full of revelations!

First of all, i've to start by saying that your preferredbutalsonot moderator has disappeared from the worldwide scene... ah, no, the scene of Nanoda not just because of pc's reasons, but also for personal problems, and you can't understand how I may regret not being able to go to CARTOOMICS, an italian event dedicated to manga and similar... So, after these few fuc... funny things, we can start Sweet&Drools: make a big applause to The Flat Earth!



It's been a while, now, that the trend in the Japanese houses seems to be oriented towards horror, the last nippon's creations are full of blood and fear, from the first frame until the last kanji of the name of the producer ... so, i've to guess that the black age is also arrived in Japan?! If so, it affects also anime...



However, horror or not, this time, you've got something unforgettable after so much time there i don't cook anything, and i guess that this masterpiece manga is just perfect. Ah, but do you want more? Epicures..!

So, we've got to explain who and what is Flat Earth: take an undefined year, and take a child - Kotaro Shiga, high school student - hibern him against his will, and let him wake up one hundred years later in a world where robots and humans live in symbiosis, but add also something even more strange... robots in this years are the creators of the world!
In fact, the androis have got control on humans, rewriting history - limited to just twenty-two years, maximum limit of their memory - and set themselves as holders of the absolute truth! And there, we put too, besides all this crazy stuff, the city where Kotaro awakens is a heap of ruins, well, this means that something terrible and destructive has happened in those hundred years, one thing that has allowed machines to win on human, whose are rapidly disappearing because of senseless kills and war insurgency.
Congratulations, gentlemen, you've created the plot of Flat Earth!



But then it is a science-fiction that copies the "Clones wars"! No, fortunately, the plot seems to evolve in favor of originality - but not too much - and soon our heroine finds good allies on both sides with whom. .. fails to put anything in place, with these idiots! 
Why? Very simple, dear nanodiani ... because they are three, and have a whole world of machines against... but at the same time have a prince on their side, but have another tyrant willing to disintegrate them... in short, a Rubik's cube would be easier to solve than to guess - and understand? - the final, or even the really too complex mechanical of this story.




So, we start to put out conclusions - because I have filled your stomach even more than necessary - and see what this work has got instead of the other: first, the extreme particularity of the drawings! If you'll notice, every scene seems like a failed scenography, and failed why? Because the laborious process of publication of this book - ongoing since 2000/2001 - was in a certain moment economically interrupted, so that sometimes the appearance of the design style keep going down, accompained with a confusing and complicated web of dialogues and incomplete stories... you might ask: but what has this to do with money? The money instead, has to do with this crap for the most part: just imagine only that the author, at the cost of writing and drawing this comic, risked ending up under a bridge, and despite this he managed to bring three tankobon on the market, and a fourth one very close coming - and for what people say, a conclusively very close coming tankobon - available to buy since 13 June.

What? All this mess up, and now you're saying it isn't even out?
Oh, no, no... it is already out, with a pre-order too! It is published by Tokyopop (oh, God, i love this name NdUkeboy) that wins, for distributes this; a masterpiece, that you can't let go away. A work evaluated 8.5/10, because i've to admit that the plot let you very confused, and tough the artistic line, although it is visually very pleasing, it isn't realized in the best way... However, I do not feel right to give a less grade to this manga: its accuracy, depth and narrative rhythm carries this manga from the arms of Lucifer in the tour of Hell, up to the first round of Paradise. A gem that can't be missed, but will keep a sceptic eyes in those who don't like science fiction very much...

Well, so, it's time to thank you - and also for apologize about the length, but it was a must-length, to explain all, come on! - and leave you with the company of a small slideshow of pictures... not view them too much and immediately go to buy this fantastic manga, worthy of being reread at least once!
