Momiji dolls outsell Hello Kitty and Pucca!

Sanrio, the Hello Kitty manufacturer, is facing a worthy rival: Momiji doll. Based upon the traditional Japanese wooden dolls "Kokeshi", handmade by Kiji-shi (wood carvers), Momiji dolls greatly outsold its "rivals" Hello Kitty and Pucca.

    

Miscellany of tradition and modernity (am I turning into a poet? °_°) Momiji (maple leaf) are given as a present for special occasions: a "get well soon" wish, a "thanks" to a beloved person and even, as in the original meaning of Kokeshi dolls, to newborns to bring good fortune.

The message you want to give can be written on a small piece of paper and inserted in the doll, through a small hole engraved in the wood. Doing so the message and the doll turn into a very special gift, filled with particular appeal.

Momiji dolls "fever" started in the UK, but they are becoming more and more famous all around the world.
