Trip To Japan: Tokyo. Sensoji shrine in Asakusa

Sensoji is one of the most important temples in the whole of Tokyo, in view just as you come out of the Asakusa Subway Station. You can see the great Kaminarimon, (the thunder door) that takes to the temple itself straight away. Once you step through the Kaminarimon you find yourself in a street crammed full of food and souvenir shops. Every day the street itself is packed with people walking from the Kaminarimon to the Hozomon, another gate on the opposite side of the street. Both of these grand doors are remakes of the originals, the first one built in 1960 the second one in 1964. Even so, they still preserve an ancient and powerful appeal.

Inside Kaminarimon are the statues of Fujin and Raijin, though the bodies of these teo guardians are remakes, their heads are from the originals.

This is the shops street. I fonud a nice fan shop where the very kind owner taught me how to open and close the fan I bought there. ^^
Here you can see the long shops street. Anything from the traditional dango to the mass produced Hello Kitty cookies can be found here.

Nakamisedori di Asakusa

After a little bit of shopping we reached the Hozomon, the beginning of the true shrine, and large Temple was in front of us.

This is the main room of the Sensoji, here you can see the Kannon statue found in a river. As you can see in the Photo, near the lady in Blue there is a "Joukuro" (a big incense brazier, in the photo you can ay see only the smoke) Just push in the head and a little bit of incense smoke will come forth, then health is life-time guaranteed.

Little sweets filled with red bean jam or sweet potato cream can be seen below. Each was marked with a little picture.

Coming back we noticed a strange building nicknamed "the beer palace." Any guesses why? =D
The beer palace can be seen in the picture, it's the one with the white spume on the top. On the other side is a strange yellow thing on another palace.
