Earth Simulator: The weather simulator

But do not worry ... There seems to you that us let do you certain things to worry about? Obviously not ... in fact in Yokohama, for about six years, is running one of the largest supercomputer in the world (i'll explain you the super, later, quiet), ES!

ES, or Earth Simulator, is (now) the tenth of supercomputers in the Top500, a ranking based on the computing power of the various systems. ES is a monster that can generate a computing power of 20 Teraflops (or 20.000.000.000.000 - twenty thousand billion floating point operations per second) and thus ensure an optimal solution to environmental problems.

Yep, even at Nanoda we are sensitive to what happens in the world, even if you do not say it so surely, eh?
However, since ultimately we are talking so much of environmental solutions, so goes inform you, dear nanoders, about whom - and how - deals with the "Climate resolving" ... well, this monster of 50x65 meters (slightly overweight, yes, but it is a genius, believe me) resident at Yokohama Institute, for Earth Sciences - of course in Japan - is developing slowly (but it would be fair to say that PROGRAMMERS are developing algorithms, or inputs for let the pc develops it slowly) many answers to complex questions, such as ... reproductions of geophysics (geyser and so on), resolutions of ocean and the atmosphere of his land, and - this is certainly the most "practical" initiative - the prediction of climate changes worldwide and forecast areas at risk of earthquakes and tsunami.

It isn't known with certainty IF and WHEN it will be possible for this vast system of circuits to change the destiny of our poor planet. But certainly we are sure that after an investment so high, the weather forecasts in Japan will not be fault of an officer of aeronautics "a bit distracted"...
